JOB TITLE: School Age Worker

REPORTS TO: Operations Coordinator & School Age Team Lead
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Operations Coordinator and School Age Team Lead, the Kitchen Aid / School Age Worker will be responsible for assisting other departments during the school year when school age activities are part-time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains program policies and procedures consistent with the agency’s mission, and which meet the requirements of funding sources and DCFS licensing standards.
2. Assists in providing an environment and a style conducive to promoting a quality program in a relaxed atmosphere in all component areas: education, health and nutrition, social services, parent involvement and administration.
3. Utilizes appropriate child development practices regarding guidance and discipline.
4. Assists in incorporating critical thinking and cooperative learning as part of the classroom everyday experiences in the school-age program.
5. Assists in following program schedule including snack time, homework time, cleanup, and other times set for activities.
6. Assists in performing record keeping and other functions as assigned and report regularly to School Age Team Lead.
7. Maintains high standard of health and safety keeping the health and welfare of all children in mind at all times.
8. Assists in the planning and implementation of a variety of diverse, culturally sensitive and enjoyable daily activities throughout school year, summer and during holidays and school vacations.
9. Participates in recruiting efforts for School Age Program.
10. Assists in recording attendance, ensuring that children are signed in and sign out on a daily basis, completes meal participation forms daily during meal time, and CACFP personnel activity reports daily.
11. Assists in collaborating with other staff, volunteers, and/or neighborhood organizations to develop on-going program implementation and in developing special events.
12. Assists the school-age worker with room arrangements and equipment. Must share in responsibility for cleaning up after classroom activities.
School Age Worker Assistant
13. During the school year, responsible for picking up program children from local schools and escorting them to El Hogar.
14. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents.
15. Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and other meetings as necessary. Maintain knowledge current in field including attendance at seminars, workshops and in- house/outside training programs.
16. Assists in agency fundraising efforts/events.
17. Escorts dropped off children to their classrooms.
18. Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Requires 60 college hours with 6 in child development, elementary education, or related fields.
OR
· 30 college hours with 6 hours in child development, elementary education or related fields and one(1) year of experience
AND
· Must demonstrate basic reading, writing, and communication skills at a level consistent with entry into college.
Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
In addition, must demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, has good judgment, creative, reliable, and dependable. In additions, exhibits sincere interest in helping children.
