Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Clinical Quality Reviewer to join our team!
The Clinical Quality Reviewer’s (CQR) chief responsibility is to coordinate, collect and submit reliable data to a data registry or to a regulatory agency to meet quality reporting requirements. This is primarily accomplished by, but is not limited to, high quality chart review, data compilation, documentation, and data entry. The CQR works closely with the members of the Quality Department and operational leaders to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as identified.
HOURS: Part-time / Benefit Eligible or .6 FTE; 48 hours bi-weekly; Day Shift

Patient Experience

Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Patient/Staff/Environmental Safety
- Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety.
- Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Identifies patients for inclusion in registries or required quality reporting through the application of inclusion/exclusion criteria and protocols.
- Collects required data components through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems.
- Follows registry and required quality reporting instructions to ensure reliable data collection.
- Participates in any required data validation.

Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection and reporting process to support timely data submission.
- Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain and report valid, reliable and accurate data.
- Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
Works Effectively with Patients, Families, and Staff
- Establishes effective working relationships with staff and department leaders including but not limited to cardiology, surgery, Health Information Management and Information Technology.

Contacts patients to request completion and return of information on an as needed basis.

Serves as an educational resource for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.
Department Specific Accountabilities

Maintains department specific accountabilities as determined, maintained, and housed within each unit’s Scope of Service.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education
- Will be required to successfully complete education on registry modules and required quality reporting after hire.
- Requires an associate degree in nursing or other health care related degree.
Experience
-
Knowledge of data collection processes and procedures and/or clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care normally acquired through a degree in nursing or other health related field.

Coding background preferred.

Minimum of one year experience in one of the following settings: acute care Quality department, nursing, or HIM.

Clinical chart review and abstraction experience preferred.

Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.
- Experience gathering information in a complex hospital system environment beneficial. Ability to track down information through various sources such as medical records, surgery clinics, Social Security death index, direct patient contact, accounts payable, and legal counsel.

Experience sharing information across functions will be helpful.
- Computer and Internet experience required.

Hospital Departmental Knowledge: Ability to identify opportunities and share feedback on data and opportunities for improvement relevant groups (for example: M&M, infection control, quality management, and administration).
Other
- Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for support; must be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.

Ability to interact with all members of the health care team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Basic statistical knowledge preferred.

Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
