Camp Loyaltown is a large residential summer camp for developmentally disabled children and adults. Our Campers range in age from 6 years to 80 plus years old; most of the campers are between 10 years old– and 60 years old.
The Camp RN works full-time, on site at camp in Hunter NY. Registered Nurses work in a complete and mutually supportive team with the Unit Heads, Cabin Counselors, Program Staff, Kitchen Staff, Administration, and Campers to ensure that the Campers (and staff) are safe and healthy during their stay at Loyal town.
In this role, you will:
- Assume responsibility for the review of medical records, preparation and administration of daily medications, MARs (including off time MARs), treatments, etc. to the assigned unit.
- Ensure medications and treatments are administered safely and in compliance with agency policy and procedure and that documentation of the same is completed; obtain replacements of medication as soon as possible in order to ensure continuity of care.
- Seek current info on campers’/staff’s state of well-being by discussions with unit administrator, cabin counselors and direct observations at mealtimes and evening activities.
- Follow prescriber’s orders for medication and or treatments as well as individualized guidelines.
- Participate in daily activity of running the clinic portion of the Health Center.
- Follow routine first aid/triage approach to care of campers and staff.
- Track list of Epipen users from assigned unit, and confer daily with counselors to ensure Epipen is readily available for emergency use; whether camper able to carry Epipen or counselor must carry for them.
- Prepare a list of medication times for the campers in your units to be posted in the Dining Hall.
- Adhere to all regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook, and agency and program training requirements.
- Practice and promote the agency’s mission statements in every interaction: “Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports people to live the Life they choose.”
We require:
- New York State Professional Nursing Certification
- CPR/AED Certification yearly as per DOH regulation
- Some experience supporting people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred
