The Tax Compliance Associate (Contract) will directly support the tax team to ensure tax team meets all payroll tax compliance deadlines. The individual will have a wide range of projects related to the Tax Compliance and core operations. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to correspond with government agencies, clients and co-workers. Must be organized and able to respond to other departments in a timely manner to facilitate the payroll processing and EP operations.
Tax Compliance Associate (Contract) must have the ability to analyze basic payroll tax issues. Must be available and willing to work overtime (OT) during tax busy periods including nights, weekends and company holidays. This individual will work hand in hand with all members of the Tax Compliance group to gain practical experience in finance centered on payroll tax compliance and support work. The Tax Department is responsible for reporting and remitting 1.5 billion in tax liabilities with federal, state, and local tax agencies on a quarterly and annual basis. This role would be a 3 – month contract position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the tax team with federal, state, foreign, and/or local payroll tax reporting deadlines by filing wage/tax reports and remittances through paper or electronic methods in accordance with department procedures and tax authority regulations.
- Reconciles payroll tax reports on a regular basis, such as daily, monthly, quarterly, or annually, to ensure full compliance.
- Processes and remits taxes related to state film incentives monthly along with resolving related issues and requests.
- Responds to inquiries from federal, state, federal, and foreign agencies in a timely and efficient manner.
- Prepares and submits state and local tax registrations as needed.
- Collaborates closely with tax team members to resolve issues promptly.
- Processes amended tax returns for previous years within designated deadlines.
- Remains updated on governmental updates related to assigned states to ensure the payroll system is up to date.
- Assist with special projects as requested by management.
- Lead projects with specific deliverables, requiring minimal guidance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience in accounting, payroll, or payroll systems.
- Payroll.org Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Designation preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll taxes and basic accounting.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Teams, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator or relevant skills for quick calculations.
- Strong communication skills to provide training to staff and associates.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Capability to take direction from management and execute tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Strong problem-solving skills to improve processes.
The hourly range for this position is $30.00 – 40.00 an hour and will be commensurate with experience related to the position.
