As the Design Lead, Riemco’s designs will be yours to care for. Alongside our other highly-capable design professionals, you will be the key resource for design knowledge at Riemco for both the team and our clients. It requires someone who is charismatic, dynamic, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.
This is a client-facing role, and key to your success will be the skills to listen to and empathize with our clients. A passionate inquisitiveness is needed to truly understand what can and should be built. You guide them through the process of designing and creating their new home or remodel and work alongside the estimating staff to align their scope of work to stay on budget.
Behind the scenes, you will collaborate with the rest of the design team, offering architectural continuity as designs develop. Understanding the needs of your teammates is just as crucial as understanding those of the client. The position will require frequent communication and project management with all the stakeholders in the design process.
As the Design Lead, you must be people-oriented and communicate well in person and in writing to establish and maintain rapport with our clients. Additionally, excellent analytic skills are a must. Your attention to detail and the ability to fit specifics into a larger whole of the project are key to ensuring that our designs balance Aesthetics, Functionality, and Budget.

Responsibilities
- Provide designs for new homes, additions, and remodels throughout the Architectural Design Phase.
- Prepare and deliver client presentations to communicate design ideas.
- Provide continuity throughout the Design Development Phase, working alongside the Project Coordinator to produce a viable project on time and on budget.
- Prepare accurate and coordinated drawing sets for phases of bidding, permitting, and construction.
- Review and redline drawing sets prepared by other members of the design team.
- Assist in the continual improvement of the design process and its resources.
- Provide support to the construction team to help solve onsite questions as they arise.
Skills + Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Design, or Construction is strongly recommended. A Master's in a similar field is preferred. Demonstration of similar skills learned by other means will be considered.
- Must have 5+ years of demonstrated skill in an Architecture / Design office setting.
- Experience as a project lead or project manager.
- Relevant sales training (Sandler, Voss, etc) is a plus.
- Have a strong understanding of residential construction methods, structural systems, and building materials.
- Firm knowledge of Zoning and Building codes. Extra points for experience in Variance proposals.
- Be conversant in the language of design and aesthetics. The ability to concisely and coherently communicate these ideas is a must. Be creative, innovative, adaptive, and communicative. If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably won’t do well here.
- Proficiency in using design and/or BIM software, such as Chief Architect, ArchiCAD, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar suites is a must.
- Experience with Smartsheet, CoConstruct, Wrike, or other project management software is a plus.
