Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Registered Nurse (RN)
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for supervising nursing personnel to deliver nursing care and within scope of practice coordinates care delivery, which will ensure that patient’s needs are met in accordance with professional standards of practice through prescriber orders, center policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local guidelines. The LPN/RN reports directly to both the prescriber and the Clinical Director.
Principal Accountabilities
- Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under supervision of Prescriber. GENERAL DUTY: Verifies identity of patient receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms of records.
- Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.
- Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares reports or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
- Document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
- Receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to patient.
- Sign for all received medications from the pharmacy verifying correct medications have been received. Turn over any discard medications to pharmacy for disposal.
- Transcribe all new medications on the (MAR) Medical administration Record as well as the Narcotic/Benzodiazepine Count Sheet and document accordingly.
- Familiarize and utilize the (EMR) Electronic Medical Record to update medication list, document vital signs and behavioral monitoring notes with regards to medication compliance.
- Record and restock medication and supply inventories.
- Ensure all residents follow rules and directions.
- Assist in providing emergency first aid when/if needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of the Medication Room.
- Complete patient room checks every 30 minutes.
- Complete administrative tasks such as answering phones and completing paperwork.
- Send MARs every shift to (email) - scan in batch and e-mail. Be sure to title the email appropriately.
- Send Med refill list every shift to (email). Be sure to title the email appropriately.
- Communicate with the Clinical Director and Prescriber when needed for guidance and emergency reporting.
- Preform other duties as delegated.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed as an LPN or RN in the state of Maryland
- One year prior nursing experience preferred, especially with regards to withdrawal medications
