Job description
The Charge Nurses primary purpose is to provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the activities of direct care staff.

Job Duties:
· Access PCC at the beginning of the shift to read the 24 hours report, and secure conversation messages; throughout the shift monitor and follow up as needed High Priority Progress Notes, Order Alerts, Clinical Alerts, and Un-reviewed Labs and Radiology; monitor POC/MAR/TAR Documentation prompting for completion as needed and monitor new orders.
· Assess residents when ill/injured, having behavioral issues, after a fall or unusual occurrence, and when new Pressure Ulcer or skin issues are reported or being monitored. Document findings and interventions in PCC (Health Status and Communication with family or other applicable Progress Notes). Follow up on units with follow up of residents’ issues from PCC (Notes, Alerts, Messages).
· Transfer resident to hospital as ordered.
· Ensure Fall Report in PCC is completed and followed up with assessments as indicated/required.
· Spend time with residents for emotional support, alleviate concerns, assist unit nursing staff. Ensure all nursing personnel assigned to shift are alert and attentive to all residents’ needs by doing rounds on units at the beginning of the shift, before the end of the shift, and periodically throughout the shift.
· Counsel employees for disciplinary matters as indicated by attendance, attitude or performance issues. Refer to DON for follow up.
· Know the Disaster Plan and Infection Control Policy Manuals and the role of the Nursing Supervisor in the event of a fire, severe weather procedure, outbreaks or personnel issues.
· Respond immediately to STAT calls in the building.
· Communicates with families and Legal Guardians (be familiar with list) to report falls, pending consultations, hospitalization, pressure ulcers, infections, and other changes as indicated. Communicate with other departments via PCC/phone for referrals, consultations or other issues.
Licensure Requirements:
- Must be currently licensed/registered in the state of Virginia. Must maintain an active Licensed Nurse in good standing throughout employment.
- Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation. CPR certification must remain current during employment.

Pay: $32.72 - $44.17 per hour
