Cups Espresso and Cafes in Bainbridge Island is looking for a team member.
We are looking to hire multiple candidates for part-time - full-time Seasonal Team Member roles for summer at Cups Espresso and Cafes in Bainbridge Island. YOU MUST BE able to stay through Labor Day (September 2nd.) We’re looking for reliable candidates with a love for coffee & food service. Based on performance if you are interested in a long term position with us we may have openings available after summer.
We have four locations across Kitsap: Bremerton, Manchester (Port Orchard), Poulsbo, and Bainbridge Island. Our team members typically have one or two of these locations where they primarily work, but will also rotate to all four stores on occasion.
Our team members prepare and serve hot and cold espresso beverages, prepare sandwiches made-to-order, and bake items to fill the pastry case, such as quiches, stratas, brownies, sweet breads, and many others. We are willing to train on any of these skills for the right candidate. Responsibilities include educating customers on our food and drink menu, making recommendations based on preferences, up-selling special items, taking orders, preparing drinks and food, and keeping the store clean and inviting.
To be successful in this role, you should have excellent customer service skills and be able to obtain a food handler's permit. Hours vary by store, but may include 4-8 hour shifts between our open hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Weekend and holiday availability is required. Blackout dates include major holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, where all team members are expected to work.
Note: this is a tipped position. Above the hourly wage listed here, tips average $6-7/hr but can go as high as $10/hr depending on business.
Responsibilities
- Greet all customers as they enter
- Answer customer questions regarding ingredients and menu items
- Take orders and pay attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios, etc.)
- Prepare beverages and food orders following guidelines
- Some light baking of items such as cookies, pastries, quiches, and muffins
- Receive and process payments (cash, credit, and gift cards) with accurate cash handling
- Keep the bar area and customer area clean throughout the day, with some deep cleaning required regularly
- Clean and sanitize dishes throughout shift
- Scoop and serve ice cream
- Comply with all health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
Skills
- Previous work experience as a Barista, Waiter/Waitress, or Food Service
- Hands-on experience with coffee brewing and/or kitchen equipment
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations
- Flexibility to work various shifts including our busiest times of weekends and holidays
- Basic math skills and accurate cash handling
- Ability to interact positively with customers and build rapport with regulars
- Excellent communication skills
