Summary: Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Gift Officer contributes to fundraising efforts on behalf of Houston Ballet by managing a personal portfolio of Ambassador-level and Arabesque Society donors and prospects. Highly externally focused, this position engages donors and prospects through personal meetings, stewardship and cultivation events and at performances and other special events. The Gift Officer creates and strengthens relationships between donors and Houston Ballet and is an integral part of the Individual Giving team’s goal to build a community of donor dance enthusiasts. This is a full-time, in-person position located in Houston, Texas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage a personal portfolio of current and prospective Ambassador and Arabesque Society donors (around 100)
-
Maintain a robust calendar of in-person meetings both inside and outside the theater
-
Attend all Individual Giving cultivation and stewardship events and assist with their management as needed
-
Proactively engage in opportunities for relationship building such as pre-performance hosting and Green Room intermissions with an expectation to be present at half (minimum) of these performance-related events
-
Participate in the Ambassador Committee volunteer group by providing logistical support, attending meetings, helping identify Ambassador prospects for Committee members and following up on any leads with members as appropriate

In coordination with the Director of Individual Giving, assist in identifying and qualifying Ambassadors with the capacity and interest to give at higher levels

Develop and maintain collateral related to the Ambassador program, including Ambassador and Young Ambassador brochures and individual proposals for donors interested in specific funding opportunities, such as Academy scholarships

Manage additional donor cultivation and stewardship events as assigned

Keep accurate and timely records in Tessitura related to donor giving and activities
- Participate in donor engagement around performances
- Support key special events such as Nutcracker Market and Ballet Ball, upon request
- Operate as an integral member of the Development Department
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum REQUIRED Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher degree required.

Minimum of three years of professional development experience in non-profit setting with some level of direct constituent or donor contact.

Ability to collaborate, take initiative, and make effective decisions. Be a problem solver.

Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Solid writing, editing, and presentation ability.
-
Attention to detail, excellent follow-through skills, and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

A respect for confidentiality and professionalism.

Exceptional computer skills, including prior database, Word, and Excel experience.
Preferred ADDITIONAL Qualifications:

Prior dance experience or knowledge is helpful.

Tessitura experience a significant plus.
Work Environment:

Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Regular (Monday – Friday), as well as on weekends as necessary.

Moderate overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
