The Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School Special Education Teachers may serve as co-teachers with a General Education teacher in an ICT Classroom or may be a SETSS teacher on a grade level. They will provide consultation and support to general education teachers in addressing the needs of their students with IEPs in the general education classrooms. The Special Education Teacher will report to the Director of Special Student Services and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
Responsibilities:
· Collaborate with the general education teacher and assistant teachers in adapting curriculum for special needs students, and provide modified curriculum and resources as needed by classroom teachers.
· Work with the general education teacher and assistant teacher to develop daily reports, behavior management and social skills curriculum for special needs students in general education classrooms.
· Provide small group instruction to students who require instructional time outside an inclusion setting.
- Administer, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data gathered from a variety of assessments on each student.
- Reflect regularly on data from student assessments alone and with colleagues, administration, or students’ families in order to inform his or her work, modify practices and increase student achievement.
· Consult with parents of special needs students to facilitate collaboration between parents and teachers.
· Confer frequently with the district of residence special education support staff and administrators
· Attend CSE and staff/parent meetings of students with special needs as requested.
· Assist teachers in problem solving and program issues related to inclusive education practices.
- Actively work to improve his or her own practice, to acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for excellent instruction and to increase his or her effectiveness in the classroom and in the school community.
Expected Qualifications and Training:
· Understanding of and commitment to the mission, goals, educational philosophy and activities of the school, as described in the school’s charter.
· Minimum Master’s Degree in Special Education
· Experience working with phonics based reading instruction (PAF, Wilson, etc.)
· Appropriate New York State Certification.
· Knowledge of special education laws and requirements.
· At least three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
· Demonstrated willingness to be held accountable for student results.
· Bilingual (Spanish/English, preferred)
· Familiarity or experience with the Sanctuary Model a plus, but not required
