Title: Schoolyard Habitat Coordinator
Reports To: Education Director
FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt
Salary Range: $40,000-45,000, $19.19-21.59/hour

Role Summary
The Schoolyard Habitat Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, direct facilitation, and development of most of the organization’s Schoolyard Habitat programs, initiatives and elements in collaboration with the Education Habitat Coordinator and the Education Director. This is a site-based role and requires evening and weekend work.
Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Delivery:
- Coordinates and facilitates the delivery of model nature-based educational programs, especially Schoolyard Habitat programs
- Teaches classes and leads activities throughout the school year at various partnership schools
- Serves as a support for all other educational programs, especially camps and field trips
- Coordinates and trains volunteers in support of programs
- Works with the Education Coordinator to maintain supplies, materials and equipment associated with education
Program Development:
- Develops and maintains the Schoolyard Habitat curriculum in line with Arizona Standards per grade level
- Works with the Education Coordinator to ensure quality and compatibility across programs
Physical Gardens:
- Coordinates the planning and design efforts associated with the installation or upgrading of outdoor classrooms and gardens
- Works with staff and volunteers to physically install/upgrade and then maintain/sustain Schoolyard Habitats
Resource Development:
- Builds relationships and cultivates a reservoir of impact stories
- Works with the Education Director to develop resources and partnerships, especially in the Schoolyard Habitat Tax Credit Campaign
Qualifications
A successful Schoolyard Habitat Coordinator (SHC) possesses the knowledge, abilities, skills and characteristics associated with educational leadership and management. These qualifications of the SHC will be derived from a blend of education and experience. These include a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in education or natural history. Desired qualifications include advanced training(s) in a related field(s), and 2 or more years of experience in classroom teaching and/or natural history education.
Program Coordination and Delivery:
- Knowledge of the Central Highlands of Arizona ecoregion and natural history
- Strong educator skills, especially those rooted in place-based, outdoor, experiential, and student-centered approaches
- Organizational skills, especially in managing and scheduling and living/breathing load of programs and initiatives
Program Development:
- Ability to develop, facilitate, and coach the facilitation of diverse groups in impactful educative experiences in a wide range of settings and subject
- Communication and professional skills associated with close collaboration
- A growth mindset focused on deepening the impact of all educational programs and initiatives and the ability to bring out the same in others
Physical Gardens:
- Ability to create a stepped plan relative to seasonal shifts guided by a clear and sustainable long term outcome
- Strong interpersonal skills related to written and verbal communication, especially when working with experts and contractors
Resource Development:
- Strong interpersonal skills as related to communicating the organization’s mission and impact with community stakeholders
- Ability to build relationships and identify/communicate impact
