Performs complex food preparation work. Work involves limited planning, preparing, seasoning and cooking food, and making recommendations for improvement. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Minimum of two years recognizable and comparable experience in an institution or school food service establishment
- Sign Language: The applicant does not need to have sign language skills at hire but will be required to participate in sign language classes offered at TSD until reaching a level of INTERMEDIATE as evaluated on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview. (SLPI)
- Experience in a residential care/school facility with the State of Texas.
- Experience in cooking and baking and in the use and care of food preparation appliances and equipment.
- Knowledge of quantity food preparation techniques and procedures and of modified and calculated diet preparation methods.
- Proficient sign communications skills.

- Assemble all food needed to prepare the meal.
- Prepare food following standard recipes and established procedures.
- Prepare any special diets following prescribed diet orders.
- Check and taste food preparation for conformance to standards.
- Insure that all foods are held at proper serving temperature.
- Prepare meals for Health Center when needed.
- Set up serving line.
- Serve customers in a courteous and professional manner.
- After meal, break-down and clean serving line and other work areas.
- Report any kitchen equipment in need of repair.
