The Control and Optimization Laboratories at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is seeking a highly qualified Scientist/Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital signal processing, filter design, and control systems theory. This role focuses on advancing research in trajectory optimization for military vehicle operations, with an emphasis on space and unmanned systems applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support and Analysis: Provide expert support for research conducted by the Control and Optimization Laboratories.
- Software Development: Develop and demonstrate MATLAB programs for signal decomposition and reconstruction using rational sampling factors.
- Literature Survey: Identify and summarize existing approaches for signal reconstruction.
- Expand Software Functionality: Enhance software to process multiple simultaneous signals and quantify performance.
- Documentation: Produce comprehensive technical documentation for all tasks and software developed.
Minimum Technical Requirements:
- Education: PhD or earned doctorate in Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Publications: Refereed journal publications in digital signal processing, filter design, interpolation filter design, and/or Kalman filtering.
- Experience: Path planning for military or space systems.

- Expertise in Digital Signal Processing and Digital Filtering: Strong foundation in these areas is essential for the role.
- Control Systems: Experience in the control of dynamic systems.
- Maneuver/Path Planning: Practical experience with trajectory and path planning for dynamic systems.
- Data Compression Algorithms: Knowledge and application of data compression techniques.
- MATLAB Programming: Ability to develop proof-of-concept code and software in MATLAB.
- Technical Report Writing: Strong skills in writing detailed technical reports and documentation.
