Responsibilities
As a key member of our patent team, your role will be multifaceted. You'll contribute directly to the success of our clients and our firm through the following responsibilities:
1. Prior Art Searching: Conducting thorough searches for prior art related to software patent applications and issued patents.
2. Search Strategy Development: Creating effective search strategies to identify relevant prior art in software and related technologies.
3. Database Proficiency: Utilizing patent and non-patent literature databases to locate prior art.
4. Search Documentation: Documenting search strategies, results, and analysis in detailed search reports.
5. Client Communication: Collaborating with attorneys and clients to understand software invention details and search requirements.
6. Technology Familiarity: Staying current with advancements in software and related technical fields to enhance search effectiveness.
7. Docketing: Keeping track of search request deadlines and delivering results in a timely manner.
8. Team Meetings: Participating in team meetings to discuss search strategies, challenges, and best practices.
9. Quality Assurance: Reviewing search reports for accuracy, completeness, and relevance before submission.
10. Administrative Tasks: Handling various administrative duties related to prior art searching and documentation.
Qualifications
Must-Have Requirements:
- A minimum of 4 years of patent prior art search experience, with a focus on software-related searches
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- Proficiency in patent and non-patent literature databases (e.g., USPTO, EPO, IEEE Xplore)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Keen attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Familiarity with patent laws and procedures, particularly in the software domain
