The Substitute Special Education Para Educator, under the direction of the classroom teacher(s), will be involved in a wide variety of duties in assisting students with the skills needed in all aspects of daily living, classroom preparation and clean-up.
Must be able to understand and follow both oral and written instructions; work with students in specialized and regular settings with patience and understanding; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, co-workers, and parents; previous experience in the specialized care and supervision of children is desirable; able to handle confidential materials with discretion; sign language skills are desirable; perform ongoing physical activities, including lifting of up to 50 lbs. unaided and over 50 lbs. with mechanical lift or second person.
Knowledge and understanding of basic goals of education. Professional or volunteer work with children or adults with special needs is highly desirable.
High School graduation or equivalent.
