Summary:
The Landscape Supervisor oversees three teams consisting of one irrigation crew and two roadway landscape crews. The supervisor monitors the care and maintenance of existing landscape assets, provides training to team members, and directs the activities of the irrigation and landscape crews. The Landscape Supervisor also assists with the oversight of landscape projects and systems including landscape, hardscape, and irrigation within existing and newly constructed right of way. This is accomplished by providing direction to consultants, reviewing, and providing input on landscape and irrigation plans and installations, monitoring installations, providing construction management oversight during the maintenance and warranty period, and developing contract scopes of work and specifications. Other duties include serving on committees, responding to inquiries, and tabulating scheduled reports. This position reports to the Landscape Manager.
This is a designated Essential Employee position whose attendance is required to maintain agency operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direction to consultants by recommending materials, ensuring maintenance is minimized, and ensuring fertilization, herbicide applications, pruning, trimming, and aerating activities are included in plans.
- Reviews and comments on landscape and irrigation plans by completing detailed design reviews and ensuring compliance with NTTA Design Guidelines and all environmental regulations.
- Monitors new installations by completing periodic site surveys, communicating identified issues with construction personnel including contractors and construction managers, reviewing contractor activity reports, coordinating landscape and irrigation plan changes, reviewing change orders, monitoring plant performance, and reviewing maintenance, irrigation, fertilizing and herbicide application schedules.
- Provides direction to direct reports regarding oversight of construction management activities during the maintenance and warranty periods of landscape and irrigation projects. Responsible for ensuring activities are performed in accordance with the contract.
- Assists in the development of landscape and turf contracts by assisting in contract development, ensuring all specifications and information are included, recommending maintenance activities, and rating contractor qualifications.
- Monitors existing maintenance contracts by completing site reviews, recommending remedial activities and maintenance schedules, ensuring irrigation schedules are enhancing plant growth and health, and developing criteria for landscape and turf condition assessment.
- Assigns and manages landscape crews in the performance of routine landscape and irrigation maintenance and repair, and plant replacement for assigned NTTA property.
- Manages landscape problems by providing crew direction, ensuring training is sufficient, acting as a horticultural resource, developing training programs, providing guidance on pruning techniques, water requirements, fertilization, weeding, and maintaining records of pesticide applications in accordance with Texas Department of Agriculture regulations.
- Supervises assigned staff, which includes employment actions, performance management, training, and career development.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
· 6-months/1-year education or training beyond a high school diploma.
· 5-7 years’ landscape management experience.
· Valid Texas Class “B” CDL.
· Tanker endorsement.
· Pesticide Applicator License (or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
· Thorough knowledge of Hazardous Materials Communication (HAZCOM) and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to ensure compliance with the standards within HAZCOM and MUTCD by the crew.
Preferred:
· Irrigation Technician License (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
