OVERVIEW:
Palmetto Engineering & Consulting, Inc., an employee-owned consulting firm, is seeking an Archaeologist to conduct archaeological investigations and ensure regulatory compliance for a variety of telecommunications projects, such as cellular tower and fiber optic line installations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain a cultural resource information base for PEC projects
- Perform archival research, testing, and evaluation
- Maintain archaeological inventories
- Defining Areas of Potential Effects (APEs)
- Conduct archaeological and historic architectural surveys
- Conduct environmental reviews utilizing the IPaC system to identify and complete threatened and endangered species reports
- Compile project impact assessments
- Perform archaeological monitoring of underground cable installations
- Develop mitigation strategies
- Maintain an understanding of fiber and tower construction
- Complete or oversee the completion of Class I and Class II surveys to meet the requirements of the requesting agency or agencies.
- Prepare other technical reports, and forms to ensure compliance with federal, state, and private agencies
- Consult with leadership about the laws and regulations concerning cultural resource issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in Archaeology, or a closely related discipline.
- 3+ years of archaeological experience
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental impact laws and regulations as they apply to historic resource protection and archaeology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience preparing, reviewing, and editing complex technical documents for a full range of various cultural resources projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and ability to use related computer systems and software.
- GIS experience using ArcMap and other ESRI software is a plus.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed
