Copy Editor/Writer, Workforce
Safal Partners is seeking a full-time, detail-oriented copy editor/writer who can prioritize multiple tasks, work on tight deadlines, be flexible with ongoing changes from both internal management and external clients and maintain a collaborative work ethic. The ideal candidate for this position is highly sensitive to language use, customer-service oriented, and technologically savvy.
The Copy Editor/Writer will support federal and state agency clients and be able to tailor materials for these audiences. The copy editor will work with teams across Safal to finalize documents such as technical assistance products, proposals, reports, federal agency policies, presentations, spreadsheets, marketing materials, and visualizations (such as process flows, dashboards, charts, websites, toolkits). This cross-functional collaboration requires not only a keen eye for spelling and grammatical errors, but also a keen ear to respond deftly to both clients’ and teams’ needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Edit, rewrite, and draft technical and nontechnical text to prepare compelling documents.
- Serve as editor, writer, and curator for proposal sections, white papers, and other content to support proposal efforts.
- Help guide strategy for writing/editing across a variety of channels, with a strong focus on project deliverables.
- Work as part of a team with subject matter experts, analysts, project managers, executives, and other writers, designers, etc.
- Collaborate to produce deliverables that meet or exceed the client’s expectations.
- Coordinate on project-specific editing and design constraints.
- Edit for format, style, grammar, punctuation, content, spelling, readability, and clarity.
- Amend final deliverables to incorporate clients’ comments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related programs of study or equivalent work experience.
- At least 2 years of directly relevant, similar professional experience.
- Portfolio of editing work available upon request.
- Strong grasp of language, including nuance and tone, and ability to adapt writing style to different audiences.
- Demonstrable editing skills at the organizational, structural, sentence, fact-checking, and proofreading levels.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented self-starter with strong communication and tech skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, particularly the use of styles, indexes, tables of contents, citations, hyperlinked cross-references, numbering, captions, etc.
- Diverse editing expertise that demonstrates meticulous, responsive work for a variety of clients.
- Highly skilled with fundamental Office 365 tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to work in basic graphic and HTML environments a plus.
- Superior problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate with and present ideas to various audiences.
- A highly self-motivated work style and willingness to take on projects proactively.
- Knowledge of §508 accessibility requirements would be a plus.
