Lead Fund Accountant

RedStream Technology is working with our client, an investment management firm in Midtown (Grand Central area) to find a Lead Fund Accountant. Our firm specializes in pension and retirement plans services for small to mid-size organizations.
In this Lead Fund Accountant role, there is a focus on mutual fund accounting and SEC reporting and will play a critical role in overseeing the accounting operations of the client’s funds. The Lead Fund Accountant will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with SEC regulations and standards. This position requires a strong background in mutual fund accounting, SEC reporting, and a thorough understanding of the financial services industry, specifically related to retirement plans and investment funds.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the preparation, analysis, and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for our client’s mutual funds, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with SEC and other regulatory requirements.
- Preparing and reviewing SEC filings on a GAAP basis and Greenbook filings along with preparing related footnote disclosures and financial information for Prospectus.
- Assisting in maintaining footnote support for annual audited financial statements and all other external reporting requirements (SEC/Audited FS).
- Internal and External Reporting Consistency:
- Collaborate with the financial reporting team to ensure alignment between internal and external reporting, maintaining consistency and accuracy.
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation and filing of all SEC reports (e.g., NPORT, NCEN, N-CSR, N30-D, 40-17G and N-MFP) for funds.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of month-end financial results, identifying and explaining variances in key financial metrics.
- Calculating and review monthly estimate and final Fund NAV’s, analyze NAV reconciliations with various third-party administrators and custodians).
- Review and reconciling the calculation of and pay management and performance fees.
- Review and reconciling capital statements and activity files generated by third-party administrators and outsourced service providers.
- Reconciling cash and asset variances between the General Ledger and external third-party reports on a monthly basis and resolving discrepancies.
- Analyze drivers behind monthly fluctuations and provide insightful commentary to management.
- Ensure the completion of month-end closing tasks this includes preparing monthly journal entries for separate account funds, complete with supporting documentation and any regulatory compliance checks within established close deadlines.
- Lead in establishing and documenting internal controls and procedures to safeguard the integrity of financial data and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including investment accounting, operational accounting, legal and compliance, and external auditors, to ensure the integrity of financial data and the efficiency of reporting processes.
- Assist and oversee the coordination of key strategic initiatives for Financial Reporting department, including (but not limited to):
- Researching and implementing automation solutions to replace manual data entry and report generation tasks, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
- Assisting in the integration of new financial software systems that could streamline data collection, reporting, and compliance checks.
- Assist in establishing and documenting internal controls and procedures to safeguard the integrity of financial data.
- Develop, standardize and streamline supporting workpapers to enhance reporting processes. Identify opportunities for process improvement, implementing best practices to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements related to financial reporting by staying abreast of changes in SEC regulations and accounting standards affecting fund accounting and reporting, advising management on the implications and necessary actions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mutual fund accounting, with a specific focus on SEC reporting, or audit experience in public or private accounting
- Strong understanding of SEC regulatory filings for investment funds
- Excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills
- Able to multi-task and effectively manage their own time
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a history of process improvement implementations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in financial reporting systems (NetSuite, Clearwater) and software used in the investment and fund accounting industry.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
