About Atmosphere Academy
Atmosphere Academy is a SUNY-approved charter school that serves Bronx School District 10 students and families in grades 6 through 12. Atmosphere's mission is to provide an "atmosphere" for learning in which students and teachers realize their potential as collaborative leaders. To realize this goal, Atmosphere has developed a suite of robust academic and enrichment programming in conjunction with key partners that are designed to develop students’ skills, knowledge, and character. Similarly, the school promotes a professional culture for its faculty and staff that focuses on distributed leadership and continuous improvement through embedded professional development, coaching, mentoring, and teaming.
College Associate
The College Associate (CA) will support the College and Career Leader with the development, design, and delivery of Atmosphere’s College Knowledge program, College Now program, college partnerships, college admission counseling program, community service program, college admission testing program, alumni program, and financial aid and scholarships. The CA will support the CCL through the active management and development of people, programs, projects, processes, and policies in the department across all grade levels.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred
- NYS certification in related field preferred
- Three or more years experience college access/admissions/school counseling
- Familiarity with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Relevant experience in a charter school or other school setting
- Proven track record of successfully working with Atmosphere’s student population
- Experience working with diverse student groupings that may include a range of ELL students, special education students, general education students, and gifted students
- Strong interpersonal skills and track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Relentless determination to do whatever it takes to help Atmosphere students succeed
- Proactive and creative problem-solver
- Values input and feedback
- Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently
- Strong recommendations from prior employers, colleagues, or employees

Responsibilities
College Knowledge Program Duties
- Support planning of annual college overnight bus tours, as well as day trips.
- Support creation of 6th-12th grade College Knowledge curriculum for college placement that is developmentally engaging to students (Materials need to be 25% middle school and 75% high school)
- Develop 6th-8th grade MS College Knowledge program (workshops, assemblies, lessons, etc.)
- Develop 9th-12th grade HS College Knowledge program (workshops, assemblies, lessons, etc.)
College Partnerships Duties
- Support follow up with with local, state, and out-of-state colleges and universities
- Support rep visits
- Participate in local, state and out of state college fairs
- Support planning of college fair in Atmosphere’s high school
College Admission Counseling Duties
- Maintain a resource library of print and electronic information of college catalogs, college guides, scholarship information, and financial aid applications
- Support communication via newsletters, information packets, phone and email with students and families
- Collaborate with CCL to deliver key information, gather recommendations and ensure students are meeting deadlines
- Schedule meetings for students and families
- Support with application materials processing
- Support reservation of space, preparing materials, and ordering supplies for events
- Support with annual reporting, update materials on regular basis, support management of Google Classroom and other communication to scholars and families
- Support data collection, office operations, organizing files, and completing other administrative responsibilities that support initiatives.
- Assist with college visits, scheduling dates, and preparing students and/or faculty for visitors.
Community Service Program Duties
- Support community service program and track hours
- Support establishing partnerships with community-based organizations to create service positions
- Communicate with community service vendors and point person as directed by CCL
- Support presentation of students the required community service hour opportunities and expectations
College Admission Testing Coordination Duties
- Support coordination of PSAT and SAT administration
- Support coordination of ACT Testing
Alumni Program Duties
- Follow up with alumni meetings and support implementation of events
- Collect and update alumni information
- Support alumni events
- Send current school updates to alumni
- Send resources to alumni
- Track college freshmen
Financial Aid and Scholarship Duties
- Follow up with students to confirm scholarship applications are complete
- Follow up with students to confirm FAFSA is complete
- Support vetting process for scholarship candidates
Other Professional Duties
- Participate in the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC)
- May perform other projects and duties as directed by the CCL
- Support creation and implementation for first ever college acceptance celebrations
- Any and all other responsibilities as delegated and assigned by the Board of Trustees and the Principal
