Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County seeks a new team member to help make a difference in individual lives and in the community. The Program Officer will support implementation of activities to provide adults with opportunities to learn, help children succeed in school, and promote reading in the community.
Duties include: Help with recruitment, enrollment, and support of program participants and volunteers; provide direct instruction for some participants; assist with logistical and administrative tasks for program activities; and help with agency-wide efforts such as public relations and fundraising.
Our current mode of operation is a flexible combination of in-person interaction with program participants and volunteers, remote computer work, and limited office hours. Reliable transportation is essential since frequent travel throughout Wayne County will be required. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required to meet the needs of program participants and volunteers.
Candidates should be passionate about learning and helping others, goal oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
Previous work history in a related field – such as non-profit services, education, training, disabilities, job coaching, or similar – is preferred. Strong computer and communication skills are required. Ability to speak another language is helpful, but not required.
