The Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant provides support for the Church Administrator and is responsible for accurate and timely performance of financial system tasks of the church. The position supports record keeping responsibilities for the church and provides backup support for office tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS: A two-year degree in accounting and two years of experience with maintaining the books for an organization or equivalent experience. The successful employee in this position will be detail oriented, highly organized, self-directed, and able to keep a high level of confidentiality. She/he will have a strong work ethic, strong sense of integrity and skills in computer applications, financial control systems, and organizational communication. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Platform applications required. She/he will enjoy working with the public and will be able to work with a wide variety of employees and church members in a faith environment.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS
Financial:
- Process & maintain Accounts Payables and Receivables and maintain files.
- Count and deposit Sunday offering and misc. revenue including online and credit card transactions.
- Post and balance contributions and pledges to the giving system and resolve donor inquiries.
- Maintain General Ledger system as it relates to Accounts Payable and receivable modules.
- Assist with development, generation, and distribution of financial reports.
- Maintain financial software and other accounting data as required.
- Prepare & process bi-weekly payroll including federal and state payroll tax filings, 403(b) contributions and other withholdings.
- Prepares quarterly and end of year tax filings including W-2’s, 1099’s and quarterly 941 filings.
- Position supports both the church and the preschool run by the church
Recordkeeping:
- Maintain Session records and minutes including maintaining the permanent archive of records.
- Collect, organize, duplicate, and electronically distribute the session (church board) packet.
- Maintain filing and the retention records keeping system for financial records.
- Support church database (Realm) administration including keeping accurate records of church leadership groups
Administrative:
- Answer incoming calls and direct callers.
- Provide support for church members meeting at the church including occasionally supporting room setups, making copies and supporting questions that arise.
- Prepare and produce Sunday bulletins as needed (act in a backup capacity).
- Provides backup support for Facebook, YouTube, constant contact and website postings.
- Initial contact for weddings, mail information packets, prepare marriage license for clergy.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and biweekly staff worship.
Perform other duties as required.

Work Location: One location, with the ability to work remotely on occasion as negotiated with the Church Administrator with guidance from the Personnel Committee.
