Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate tutor/1:1 to work with our daughter who has special needs and will be entering the 9th grade in the fall. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and a strong background in education, however we are open to people from other backgrounds who are creative and interested in learning how our daughter learns.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one learning during the school day at Orchard Friends School.
-Provide 1:1 support during the school day while in group learning classrooms, including collaborating with her other teachers and helping navigate the school environment.
- Create engaging and interactive lesson plans, incorporating a range of teaching strategies and materials.
- Develop and implement curriculum materials, ensuring they align with our daughter’s interests and her IEP.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, reinforcing social skills across all school activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers and the school, keeping them informed of student progress and any concerns or issues that arise.
- Collaborate with other educators and professionals to ensure a comprehensive and effective educational experience.
Experience:
- Proven experience in a teaching or tutoring role.
- Experience working with children or adults with diverse learning needs.
- Strong background in curriculum development and lesson planning is preferred but not required. Ability to be creative and responsive to our daughter’s learning needs is most important.
- Familiarity with classroom management and classroom settings.
- Experience in adult education or early childhood education.
- Knowledge of special education and the needs of students with special needs, preferred but not required; intelligence, flexibility and creativity are most important.
Skills:
- Experience with tutoring and assisting in classroom and a strong commitment to student success.
- A passion for working with children and a desire to make a positive impact on their educational journey.
- The ability to develop engaging and interactive lesson plans, incorporating a range of teaching strategies and materials and use our daughter’s personal interests as platforms for teaching new skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, school and caregivers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage a busy schedule.
- Ability to understand our daughter’s unique challenges and strengths and develop appropriate teaching topics, interventions and learning strategies as well as to develop a strong bond with her.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
