Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants offer an approach that focuses on the effects of injury on the social, emotional, and physiological condition of individuals, and assists in meeting goals written by an evaluating therapist related to an individual’s balance, motor skills, posture, and perceptual and cognitive abilities within the context of functional, everyday activities. Occupational Therapy helps individuals achieve greater independence in their lives by regaining some or all of the physical, perceptual, and/or cognitive skills needed to perform activities of daily living.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Responsible for learning and implementing all aspects of Minds Matter LLC philosophical principles.
2. Assists individuals to identify their needs and develop appropriate compensation techniques to accommodate the consequences of their brain injury.
3. Contribute to evaluations that address consumers’ physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine best methods and strategies for therapies.
4. Evaluate and recommend changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist in consumers’ work or living environments that are consistent with their needs.
5. Integrate employment, educational and independent living goals into therapy.
6. Collaborate with consumer and other professional staff to determine when goals are being met.
7. Attend team meetings and assist consumer in goal setting.
8. Integrate employment, educational and independent living goals into therapy.
9. Work closely with the consumer and case manager to ascertain goals.
10. Provide services only as designated on each individual consumer’s plan of care and /or physician orders.
11. Work directly with consumers to improve skills in all aspects of their life goals.
12. Maintain and turn in all documentation at assigned times.
13. Educate families about the consequences of brain injury and communicate with them about goals and progress as needed.
14. Attend all trainings and workshops to maintain ability to provide the most up to date, effective and evidence-based practice.
15. Provide effective documentation that is legible, timely and appropriate to services provided to consumers.
16. Be aware of departmental goals and objectives and take an active role in helping the department to attain goals.
17. Schedule supervision meeting with therapy coordinator or physical therapist bi-monthly or as needed to review individual cases and departmental objectives/needs.
18. Make initial contact within 48 hours of receipt of referral to schedule evaluation, which must be completed within 7 days of receipt of referral.
19. Assist TLS in goal setting at initial evaluation/assessment and ongoing as you work with consumers and their goals change.
20. Provide case managers with quarterly summaries related to goal attainment.
21. Meet all policy and procedure requirements of Minds Matter LLC on time including completion of timesheets, mileage, quarterly summaries, and other reports.
22. Establish and maintain a professional rapport with all consumers, co-workers, referral agents and representatives of other community agencies and services, including attendance at planning meetings, etc.
23. Maintain confidentially of consumers medical records or services according to HIPAA regulations.
24. Promote public relations throughout the agency and community for the program.
25. Demonstrate a willingness to serve on agency and interagency task groups as requested.
26. Provide care and maintenance for Minds Matter LLC issued computer if assigned.
27. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Successfully completion of an occupational therapy assistant program from an accredited associate degree program. Must be currently licensed in the state of Kansas. A license in Missouri is preferred but not required.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
