The basic machine operator perform medical exams using X-rays on patients to create images of specific parts of the body. The images are then interpreted by a doctor for diagnosis and monitoring of disease. Radiographers prepare patients for the exams, move patients to the correct position, operate the equipment and use their knowledge and skill to minimize the radiation dose to the patient.
JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
- Serves as a patient care advocate by providing comfort, privacy and support to the patient and communicates patient's needs to the provider.
- Assists providers with patient examination, procedures, treatment and X-ray/imaging services.
- Identifies patient situations that require the need to access additional resources (ex: appropriate equipment available, unclear provider order, patient safety issues, etc.).
- Coordinates and maintains practice schedule.
- Informs patients of practice delays, informs practice management as appropriate and monitors patient throughout visit.
- Facilitates room turnover and room preparation between patients.
- Follows up on test orders, reports results to provider and patient, provides and maintains patient education materials, maintains medical equipment and orders clinical supplies.
- Real-time documentation of medication administration is appropriately recorded in the patient's medical record and other databases as required.
