GENERAL PURPOSE of the position:
-
Performs a wide range of mechanical assembly procedures. Ability to read and interpret majority of print packages and use proper judgement on instructions. Provides some guidance and training for lower level assemblers at the supervisor's request. Familiar with a wide variety of jobs, many of which are complex in design.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Reads and interprets assembly and component blueprint drawings and packages.

Ability to interpret and implement processing instructions and complete documentation associated with the procedures.

Receives general instructions on new assignments.

Ability to assemble any above average/difficult designed job while consistently maintaining a low level of scrap.

Operates high temperature hydrogen atmosphere furnaces for the following assembly procedures: Assembles button/body component parts by using brazing procedures.

Assembles units with heaters by using potting procedures.
-
Assembles sleeve component parts by using spot welding and brazing procedures.
-
Requires infiltration with impregnant derived from compounds of assembled units.

Requires additional low melting temperature brazing and base assemblies.

Ability to use all types of brazes.

Familiar with all furnace operations including the calibration of the furnaces.

Ability to operate a torch proficiently.

Familiar with the use of a cut off wheel, spot welder operations, and ohm meter use.

Enters accurate information on assembly records, logs, and other report forms.

Uses personal documentation for review and use during repeat procedures.

Ability to assist other departments with associated processes or product knowledge.

Ability to become cross-trained in a variety of jobs and at least one other department function.

Aptitude to adjust to changes in process improvements or instruction updates.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Reading, writing, basic mathematics and mechanical comprehension skills. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Successful completion of two to three years at the Micro Assembler-3 level.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, comprehend and interpret detailed instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple documentation. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisor and employees in the manufacturing department.
MATHEMATICAL/ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This job requires being stationary for long periods of time as the assembly work takes place sitting at a desk and is primarily performed with the use of a microscope.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
