Key Accountabilities
Inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining food processing facility building and grounds including HVAC equipment as well as office facilities in a USDA production environment.
Responsibilities
· Perform all work as assigned while adhering to established standards associated with workmanship and safety.
· Responsible for the safe and dependable operating condition of all tools and equipment in the facility.
· Ability to assist with testing, troubleshooting and repair of 110/230/460 volt electrical equipment including motors, starters, relays, timers, panels, breakers, conduit and wiring.
· Understands and adheres to established safety programs (ex/ lock out/tag out, ladder safety, etc.)
· Communicates effectively at all levels in the maintenance and operating departments.
· Provides rapid response when equipment malfunctions or breaks down.
· Ensures the building is maintained in compliance with city and fire regulations.
· Fix leaking pipes, hoses, and sinks.
· Minor plumbing repairs
· Scraping and painting fixtures.
· Change light bulbs and lighting fixtures.
· Assist in repairing the facility as directed by management.
· Fulfil work orders for other departments.
· Troubleshoot minor electrical problems in facility.
· Assist wastewater department when needed.
· Other duties as may be assigned or volunteered for.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
· Possess good language skills (verbal & written) to interpret procedures, comprehend instructions, and to communicate effectively with others.
· Be self-motivated, a self-starter and self-directed to work without close supervision in a team environment.
· Hard working, dependable, safety and quality conscious.
· Valid Illinois Driver’s License preferred.
· Must possess a high school degree, or equivalent.
· Reading, writing and basic math skills required.
· Minimum 5 years of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic experience in a food (USDA or FDA) manufacturing environment.
· Available to work any shift, as required.
· Work standing or walking for long periods of time.
· Work bending and squatting.
· Walk around the facility and be able lift a least 50 Lbs.
· Proper and safe use of hand and power tools and working on machinery.
Employee should be able to:
· Lift up to 50lbs.
· Work standing or walking for long periods of time.
· Work bending and squatting.
· Work making fast and repetitive hand motions.
· Work in cold refrigerated and frozen conditions.
· Be able to push/pull heavy loads using hand jack.
· Work at 25 to 30 foot elevations using a man-lift.
· Be able to learn fork lift truck.
· Work on roof level equipment.
· Work Weekends and additional hours when required.
Work Environment:
· Refrigerated and Frozen areas
· Food manufacturing, packaging and warehousing environment.
Food Safety/Quality
- Report any issues regarding food safety or quality to supervision and/or quality assurance.
· Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate attention.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
