Transportation General Manager
Job Summary:
We are a small family owned trucking company seeking an experienced person to take our business to the next level. This position is responsible for overseeing sales and operations, ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, securing new customers, load assignment and providing best in class customer service. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and responsible for all compliance and company standards, while working with internal and external contacts to ensure the accurate pricing, planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight and loads. Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with safety standards. Plan and oversee the administration of budget for the operation.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
· Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety to minimize turnover and maximize ongoing productivity
· Utilize personnel management including training and orientation of drivers and/or employees including the training and assistance with internal and third-party (customer) systems
· Conduct analysis of fleet operations and profitability and make recommendations for continuous improvement, determine and measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain, and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis through face-to-face and/or virtual interactions at customer locations
· Manage inventory, assets, customer pools and/or assignment of drivers to balance equipment
· Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documenting, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and/or creating operational or financial reports
· Manage yard including checking/inspecting equipment, scheduling repairs, ensuring preventative maintenance services are scheduled on time and all safety-related mechanical issues are completed.
· Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing and/or planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay-related issues, etc. as they occur throughout the day and, where necessary, when on-call
· Maintain the Company's safety culture to include daily driver safety messages, monthly driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, annual reviews, and enforce company policies to ensure DOT compliance and company safety requirements are being met
· Source loads, assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements,
Qualifications:
Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally
Experience in fostering strong customer relationships via delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement
Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
Accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Experience in Axon, Samsara, and Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Ability to consistently travel to account & customer locations
Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives
Experience in holding people accountable & conducting difficult conversations
Ability to perform in a stressful and high-pressure work environment
Preferred Qualification:
Bachelors in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field AND 3-4 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, &/or equivalent military experience
Minimum Qualification:
High School Diploma/GED AND 5-6 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, &/or equivalent military experience AND the ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
