The Principal - High School promotes the educational development of High School Students by use of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills, as well as the SFIS core values to achieve the school’s vision and mission as articulated in the Ideal Graduate statement. The HS Principal works as part of the key administration leadership team to support and promote a positive, safe, and healthy learning environment for students and staff.
Essential Duties, functions, & Responsibilities · · Interprets and carries out board policies, education standards, and Federal Regulations in compliance with Department of Education. · Develops, implements, maintains, and updates school’s Improvement Plan/Academic 5-Year Plan. · Implements adopted standards and perform curriculum audits and oversee all high school student assessments (i.e., short cycle assessment, standardized testing, etc.) and implement test security precautions as required by regulations. · Gathers, disaggregates, enters, graphs, interprets school data, and analyzes assessments and develops interventions/strategies for school and student improvement. · Is responsible and accountable for school level instructional leadership on all subject matter, inclusive of curriculum/bilingual curriculum, curriculum development, implementation, instructional improvement, professional monitoring, curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments, standards-based education, and evaluation of programs; develop a School Works on Improvement Plan/Academic 5-Year Plan for assigned school and implement the School Improvement Plan/Academic 5-Year Plan. · Is visible and makes informal or formal observations on teacher competencies, teaching techniques, student’s time on task, classroom management, student learning outcomes, and student daily attendance; personally review grade sheets and report cards on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th nine (9) weeks basis. · Works with staff, the Parent Advisory Group, and others for maximum effectiveness and make recommendations to the Superintendent for school improvement. · Assesses program and fiscal needs of the school by reviewing student achievement in basic, bilingual, special education, vocational and all operational and federal program(s), inclusive of School Based Health Services and Technology. · Secures and accounts for all school property and equipment assigned to the principal’s jurisdiction by maintaining an inventory and updating the inventory annually. · Establishes an atmosphere at the school which will promote communications with faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community, promote a mutual understanding of the concern, opinion, and feelings of each group and provide a monthly community newsletter. · Sets up a supervision schedule for safety purposes during the school day and for school activities. · Performs the essential principal competencies as delineated in the Principal’s Educator Growth System · Reviews cumulative student records frequently. · Assures that each respective teacher maintains complete and updated permanent cumulative records, inclusive of grade and attendance, for students which are safe from fire and theft. · Is responsible for membership accounting in accordance with Finance Division’s “Manual of Procedures”, to include pupil attendance/pupil accounting, through the Accountability Data System/School, as applicable. · Ensures that upon release of student information the procedures must be consistent as established by: Inspection of Public Records Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act 1974-20 U.S.C., Section 123g., · Implements Regulations, 34 Code of Federal Regulations, part 99, and Implementing Regulations, 34 Code of Federal Regulations, part 300. · Supervises or designates another HS administrator or certified employee, to supervise after school curricular, co-curricular, academic competitions, or extra-curricular activities that are promoted from the academic program. · Organizes and supervises Dual Credit/Concurrent Programs, with respective post- secondary institutions. · Promotes innovative educational programs and assist in proposal writing for new grant monies. · Focuses on target areas outlined on School Improvement Plan/Academic 5-Year Plan tied into the SFIS Strategic Plan. · Principals and/or designee will be responsible for supervision within cafeteria premises and for discipline matters. · Develops the master teaching schedule with the counselor’s assistance, assigns personnel to reflect teaching assignment, and schedules supervision to work areas to be approved by Superintendent. · Collaborates with the Continuous School Improvement Director in obtaining data for certain projects, provide technical assistance in developing Strategic Plans, etc. · Implements and oversees the entry of data through Accountability Data System/School (NASIS). · Attends the entire Education Appraisal and Review (EA&R and IEP) committee meetings as mandated for Special Education. · Keeps supervisors informed of events and activities of an unusual nature, as well as routine matters for accountability purposes. · Evaluates all assigned staff according to policy; initiate and develop growth plans. · Is responsible for the ordering of textbooks, supplies, materials, and equipment from the appropriate allocation by following the procedures set by policy. · Collaborates with Admissions to organize admissions’ testing, review and approve student applications as part of the Admissions Committee. · Supervises and manages the following school-wide programs: Special Education (7-12), Gifted and Talented (7-12), Library Media Center (7-12), Extended Learning (7-12), 21st Century (7-12), and PASS (7-12). · Is responsible for the development of student and faculty handbooks, safety plans, and parental involvement plans as they apply to each school site. · Complies with Fire Marshall regulations, fire drills, and respond to reports. · Works collaboratively with other Principals, Directors, and Instructional Programs on program improvement, instruction, curriculum, and professional development plans. · Gathers and provides data needed for Federal, State, and other reports in a timely manner. · Supervises all assigned school facilities, inclusive of school plant, school grounds upkeep, campus, landscaping, cafeteria, gymnasium, dressing rooms, restrooms, track field, baseball/softball field, playground, sidewalks, parking area, and other personnel at respective school unit. · Develops an on-going information system/study on student assessment outcomes for grades 9th through 12th with the assistance of the Counselor(s) for the purpose of making curriculum revisions and/or recommendation on program(s) modifications, personnel and/or budget. · Is responsible for verifying the certification of attendance for all assigned employees, inclusive of all students. · Supervises and monitors students as the final disciplinarian for the school, implementing the student handbook that promotes a safe environment for all students. · Implements the attendance policy; supervise accuracy of the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work collaboratively with the Student Rights and Responsibilities Coordinator on investigations and follow-up actions. · Assists in organizing, supervising, and assessing after school programs and summer enhancement programs for students. · Provides training to staff members on teaching strategies, core values, technology, Outcomes based Standards, Standards based Education, Portfolio Assessment, Curriculum Alignment Benchmarks, Performance Standards/Assessment and classroom/student management and strategies. · Adheres to Purchasing/Procuring Policy and Procedures and review assigned Budget Allocations or activity funds and initiate budget transfers, budget increases, budget decreases. (Due to knowledge and/or familiarity of the scope of the program(s)). · At the request of the Superintendent, interviews and/or makes recommendations on employment, re-employment, discharge and/or terminations for the Superintendent’s consideration. · Reviews and monitors fund budget and expenditures for accountability purposes. · Meets with parents and address their concerns. · Deposits all Activity Funds, vending machine funds, textbook funds, and monies from fundraisers, etc.… within twenty-four (24) hours to the Business Office. · Attends board meetings as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in education or other related field of study and five (5) years of school administration experience and/or teaching at the secondary level. New Mexico Administrative License as required by the State of New Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Native American students, and Native American or Tribal entities preferred.
