This recruitment process will be used to fill full-time, regular status Police Dispatcher positions with the Glendale Police Department.
POLICE DISPATCHER TESTING DATES & PROCESS
The testing process for the Police Dispatcher position will consist of a typing test, multitasking test and an Interview. The typing test and interview take approximately 15 minutes each to complete. The multitasking test takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete and consists of 10 sections.
All parts of the testing process will be communicated via email. Testing and interview dates will be established after an initial review of applications.

Answers emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, dispatches and monitors officer's activity, and enters information into criminal justice information systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school education and one year experience in the field of customer service with public interaction. Ability to learn and operate computer programs including but not limited to Computer Aided Dispatch and specialized telephone and radio communication equipment. Ability to type 35 wpm. Preference will be given to candidates with prior law enforcement dispatching experience. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Requirements:
Work shift work in a 24/7 environment that is operational every day of the year to include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work under pressure in emergency and stressful situations and at several tasks concurrently.
Quickly and accurately obtain pertinent information during stressful interactions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city personnel, outside agencies and the public.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Obtain a Terminal Operator Certification, Level A, within 6 months of employment.
Operate computerized criminalized justice information systems within the guidelines of the law.
Learn the geographical street grid system for the City of Glendale.
This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required, and they will be subject to further audiogram and vision testing throughout their period of employment. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.

Intense concentration and prolonged attentiveness required during emergency communications.
Interaction with distraught or abusive individuals.
Effective July 1, 2024, Hearing: Uncorrected hearing with no loss greater than 25 dB in the 500, 1000, 2000, or 3000 hertz frequencies.
Effective July 1, 2024, Vision: Must have at least 20/80 vision, correctable to 20/20 with contact lenses or glasses; or 20/200 vision, correctable to 20/20 with soft contacts.
