RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs pre-admitting activities. Receives bookings from physicians and interviews patients before admission to obtain required information, explain hospital policies and to discuss patient balances. Screens insurance information to identify patients needing preadmission approval from third-party payors. Assembles admission folders containing paperwork for scheduled patients.

Performs admitting activities. Greets patients and conducts patient interviews to obtain required information and signatures. Collects patient co-pays and balances due. Provides financial counseling as needed. Notifies appropriate department of patient arrival.
- Must be able to complete patient registrations with a 90% accuracy rate.

Makes status changes per unit nurse and audits status changes from the previous day.
- Answers daily inquiries regarding admitting procedures, hospital regulations and services; refers inquiries to appropriate person or department elsewhere in the hospital when necessary.
- Provides pertinent information to the patient’s family in the waiting area according to policies and procedures.

Monitors waiting area; ensures that if there are any visitors/patients left in the waiting area before leaving at the end of the day, they have been communicated with.
- Coordinates reception area activities for effective communication with all areas of Facility.

Answers telephone courteously and in a quiet, pleasant voice; Accepts and relays messages effectively along with other clerical duties as needed.

Coordinates with provider’s office for required admission documentation.

Validates authorization numbers in EHR and makes sure the number matches the authorization documentation. to
- Maintains and protects each patient’s right to confidentiality.

Identifies emergencies and initiates appropriate response in accordance with safety protocol as part of the compliance program.

Assists in ordering and stocking supplies.

Maintains order and cleanliness of the patient access area.

Prepares all Daily Deposit/Cash Log following Facility cash controls.
- Behaves and dresses in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.
- Plans ahead, manages time well, and arrives on time.

Reassesses and revises processes and procedures as needed to improve efficiency.

Routine duties using one or more of several established procedures within a prescribed practice under general supervision. Involves minor decisions, many of which are repetitive. Position requires close attention to detail. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
- Frequent contacts of a significant nature involving difficult negotiations and technical matters. Requires a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
Medical Clerical experience preferred.
One year Healthcare experience preferred.
Strong communication & customer service skills required.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Interviews patients on admission to the hospital, records required personal information, secures signatures, and prepares patient data for processing the admission. Performs clerical and reception duties.
