The Animal Care Technician II performs basic animal husbandry, routine care, and maintenance of animal living quarters, collaborating with research staff on study-related tasks. Responsibilities include daily health observations, cleaning enclosures, feeding, watering, enriching animal lives, and handling and restraining animals. They will implement care procedures, manage animal inventory, collect and record data according to GLP, and ensure regulatory compliance. Additionally, the technician will work towards expertise, mentor other technicians, and participate in vivarium maintenance. This is an hourly role that is eligible for overtime after 40 hours in a workweek and has no supervisory responsibilities.
A high school diploma or GED is required, with at least one year of experience in animal care in a research setting or equivalent. ALAT/LAT certification is preferred. The role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, decision-making, teamwork, and coachability. The technician will work in a laboratory setting, exposed to animal pathogens, chemicals, and zoonotic organisms, and must wear personal protective gear. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on short notice.
