POSITION SUMMARY:
- The essential functions of the job for the Server/Utility Worker, requires, and may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of Viva Senior Living to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable.
- Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment, and above all, maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
- In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather,
evacuation, temporary staffing shortages, etc.).
- Must adhere to Viva Senior Living’s attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members and loves ones.
- Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Server shall provide meals and beverages to residents in the dining room and is responsible for the total resident experience.
- Involves independent and team responsibilities regarding set-up and clean-up of the dining room for meal service and other prep/closing duties.
- Take attendance at meals, if assigned
- Offer residents beverages prior to meal, including ice water, juice of choice, milk, or other beverages as desired
- Ensure that appropriate condiments are available for current meal
- Ensure that the dining room is prepared for meal service
- Participate in pre-service meeting and tasting to understand the meals being served at that service
- Knowledgeable of menu items including: Daily Specials, Special Diet accommodations
- Ensure that food order is correct as requested by resident prior to serving resident meal in the dining room
- Serve resident meal in courses as often as possible
- Ensure resident is satisfied with presentation of meal prior to leaving table and has everything they need to eat that meal and offer alternatives, if desired
- Inform kitchen of any resident concerns regarding meal
- Remain available during meal service for assistance when/if needed
- Notify medical staff immediately on any medical emergency or any change in eating habits as this may be indication a resident is not feeling well
- Work closely in a team setting with Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Supervisor, Cooks, and fellow dining staff and nursing to assist when needed
- Follow community policies and procedures regarding safety standards
- Follow community policies and procedures regarding food sanitation
- Wear appropriate uniform and nametag and adhere to hygiene standards
- Clean up vases, change tablecloths if necessary and wipe down chairs and chair legs if dirty from mealtime
- Must be able to lift a 25-pound tray overhead
- Keep the dining room floor clean and vacuum between all meals
- Maintain a positive, welcoming, and accommodating attitude towards residents always
Perform other duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Manager, and Executive Director

- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
