Episcopal Day School ofSt. Matthewis seeking a Middle School Maker Lab Teacher/Tech Ed Coordinator. This role holds comprehensive responsibility for leadership, planning, and implementation of the School’s academic technology program, including a balance of faculty integration and direct classroom teaching.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a passion for learning and helping others learn, excellence in the classroom, a vision for long-range planning, confident verbal and written communication skills, patience, and enthusiasm for emerging technologies. This person will develop and facilitate technology integration into the School’s curriculum within the broader framework of 21st-century learning, including making the most of the School’s well-equipped Maker Lab. The Middle School Maker Lab Teacher/Tech Ed Coordinator reports to the Middle School Director and collaborates with the IT Specialist and Academic Leadership Team. The position is a full-time, academic-year position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the school, its mission, curriculum philosophy, goals, and leadership
- Refine and implement a technology plan consistent with best practices and the School’s strategic vision
- Provide leadership in academic technology, collaborating with faculty to deliver technology tools to support teaching and learning
- Teach Middle School Maker Classes – designing and implementing innovative curriculum
- Implement and lead a middle school robotics team and lead the Episcopal Day School Tech Challenge team
- Design and implement technology professional development sessions for faculty on new and emerging technologies
- Facilitate faculty discussions regarding areas of new pedagogies of learning specifically in technology
- Assist students with technology needs in and out of the classroom
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Education/Qualifications
- A demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the instructional program
- A demonstrated ability to develop and teach innovative, creative “Maker” curriculum
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a one-to-one iPad or ChromeBook program in the context of an Apple/Mac learning environment
- Experience and skill with a wide range of hardware and software in both dedicated lab and mobile learning settings
- Understanding of different learning styles and modalities
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively as a team player with colleagues in the faculty and administration
- 2-3 years teaching experience
- A B.A. and M.A. in technology or related field and/or teaching credential preferred
- Experience teaching Scratch or other introductory programming environments, as well as coding languages and platforms
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work in an active, fast-paced environment with various challenges, deadlines, and contacts.
- Must regularly move safely and comfortably over a large campus.
- May stand for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours per day).
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment and outside in cold and wet weather (80+ degrees).
- Ability to safely and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. And regularly lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly sit, talk, walk, hear, and interact with students, parents, staff, and visitors.
- Regularly use close and distance vision.
- Able to climb stairs
- Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a step ladder.
