Purpose of Job
The Design Engineer is part of the Design Engineering Team, which is responsible for product design and support. This position will require about 15-25% overnight travel to manufacturing facilities and installation locations in the U.S. for on-site technical support.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Product Design and Development
- Structural, Mechanical, Performance, Codes & Standards, Controls, Testing
- Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling of products and ventilation systems
2. Quality Control
- Reviewing fabrication processes and results for adherence to required product specifications
- Review outsourced products or sub-assemblies for adherence to required product specifications
- On-site and off-site installation training for subcontractor network
3. Documentation
- Technical drawings (approval, fabrication, and installation)
- General Product Technical Specifications
- Installation, operation, and maintenance manuals
- Bill of Materials and product cost analysis
4. Technical Support
- Develop resources and tools for the Sales team to quickly and accurately specify products for specific projects and applications.
- Troubleshooting warranty issues via phone and on-site diagnostics when needed.
- Internal consulting: Answer questions regarding product performance, capacity, and application.
Skill/Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (or equivalent experience)
- Software: 3-D Modeling (SolidWorks), 2-D Drafting (Draftsight), Simulation (ANSYS)
- Technical writing for technical drawings, specifications, and manuals.
- Maturity to properly represent the company to customers and subcontractors.
- Interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability to solicit input from multiple sources and determine the best technical solution.
