Our firm is adding an experienced driven litigation discovery and motions attorney to our civil rights jail neglect injury/death practice team. This is a newly-created position.
The position is fully remote and requires current and continuous Texas residency. Three to seven years of heavy civil litigation experience is preferred. Experience handling personal injury litigation, section 1983 litigation, and/or practicing in federal court would be helpful. If you are a self-starter and want to litigate meaningful cases with a hard-working and friendly team, this could be your opportunity.
We represent families of people who die in jails from neglect, abuse, or suicide, as well as people catastrophically injured or sexually assaulted in jails. Most cases involve people dying from medical neglect, and we litigate all cases in federal court.
The position will initially involve drafting discovery deficiency letters; communicating with opposing counsel regarding discovery issues; drafting, filing, and arguing discovery motions; responding to and arguing discovery motions; drafting forms and procedures for responding to discovery and related staff training as necessary; and objecting to discovery requests and/or reviewing discovery objections made by other team members. Secondary responsibilities could include drafting typical non-dispositive non-discovery-related motions and responses, arguing motions, and otherwise working with other team attorneys to advance our firm's docket. Our principal office is in downtown Dallas, and some travel to our office might be required on occasion. We are a growing firm, and the position may develop into a full-time position with full benefits over time if desired.
We offer a friendly, fast-paced environment with benefits. Compensation is $50.00 to $70.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Bonuses are also paid when cases resolve. If you are interested, please upload your resume', a cover letter, a writing sample (10 pages or more with legal citations, preferably a lengthy federal motion to compel), your law school transcript (if you graduated in the last 15 years), and your compensation requirements.
