- Verify insurance for all patients starting IV therapy.
- Complete prior authorizations for all new and continuing infusion patients.
- Complete all benefit investigations for all Medicare and Commercial IV patients.
- Enroll eligible patients in copay programs.
- Review chart documentation to ensure patient meets medical policy guidelines.
- Submit medical records to insurance companies to expedite prior authorization processes.
- Manage correspondence with insurance companies, physicians, specialists and patients as needed, including documenting in the EHR as appropriate.
- Assist with medical necessity documentation to expedite approvals and ensure that appropriate follow-up is performed.
- Review accuracy and completeness of information requested and ensure that all supporting documents are present.
- Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency.
- Obtain authorization via payer websites, phone or fax and follow up regularly on pending authorizations.
- Maintain individual payer files to include up to date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations.
- Initiate appeals for denied authorizations.
- Confirm accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 diagnoses in procedure orders.
- Contact patients to discuss authorization status.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of procedure authorization and its direct impact on the practice’s revenue cycle.
- Understanding of payer medical policy guidelines and ability to manage authorizations effectively.
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and Internet use (multiple online platforms).
- Attention to detail with above average organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with physicians.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time sensitive workload.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years medical authorization experience preferred
- 2 years experience in a medical related field preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
