OVERVIEW: The Principal Architect is a senior leader who facilitates increased efficiency and impact of our AE services at Awen Solutions Group (Awen). With guidance from, and in collaboration with the Vice President of AE Services, The Principal Architect will lead the delivery of AE designs for our clients. The Principal Architect supports efforts to improve design processes, polices, and procedures for achieving high quality project objectives set for by the VP of AE Services. The Principal Architect will also collaborate with Directors of Project Management, Manager of Studio and Manager of Design and other service line leadership to maintain consistency across the Organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is light. Position requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Position requires occasional travel.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is remote. The employee is responsible for ensuring the work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The position reports to the VP of AE Services who provides direction and feedback on assigned tasks and projects. The Principal Architect plans, designs, and conducts the work to be done with the guidance from and in collaboration with Vice President of AE Services.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The Principal Architect is responsible for: i) providing oversight and approval authority for the content and quality of architectural production documents prepared by Awen staff and our Consultants for all Architectural/Engineering projects. This includes confirming documents are comprehensive, coordinated, comply with building codes/design guidelines and are constructable within the given budget and communicate the project design intent; ii) sealing and signing all drawing packages created and delivered by Awen AE Services staff; iii) providing project delivery and subject matter expertise to Awen and our clients on architectural design matters, space design, and construction administration RFI and specification approvals; iv) working with all project delivery teams to establish project workplans, help develop project delivery best practices, and serve as a resource for design staff; and v) collaborating with VP of AE services for coordination of departmental strategies set and achieve departmental goals and ensuring efficient operations and consistency across the organization.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Include but are not limited to the following:
Executive Support:
Provides oversight for the content and quality of architectural production for all Architectural/Engineering projects.
Serves as the Architect of Record (AOR) for all department A/E projects.
Serve as mentor for technical staff.
Participates in project interviews as needed.
Programmatic Support:
Serves as a lead project architect on AE departmental design and construction administration project contracts.
Provide subject matter expertise for AE service matters across the Organization.
Provide project delivery and construction administration activities in support of existing contracts a minimum of 60% of the time.
Participates in peer reviews of architectural production documents for Awen AE projects.
Professional Development:
Identify professional development opportunities for AE Service managers and architects.
Lead or be a primary contributor to the Architectural Community of Practice to support staff development and knowledge sharing, including leading at least quarterly meetings showcasing architectural practices, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and other relevant topics.
Communications:
Maintain effective communication with the Vice President, AE Services and Awen Leadership by providing programmatic updates and flagging time-sensitive items as needed.
Maintain effective communication with the AE Services Managers to identify departmental issues and opportunities.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Licensed Architect with 15+ years of professional practice with extensive knowledge about and experience focused on Healthcare Facilities, working with the National Hospital Building Codes as well as VA Technical Information Library (TIL) Design Guidelines and Construction Standards. Detailed oriented with excellent problem solving, communication and organizational skills. Ability to maintain a high level of performance in an environment with changing priorities and deadlines. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Three-Dimensional modeling, Bluebeam, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch-Up.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
