SUMMARY
The Medical Receptionist primary role is to welcome all patients to our practice, either on the phone or coming through our doors. This individual also assists departments with data entry and other clerical support tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Answers all incoming phone calls through our main number and gets the patient to the appropriate area.
2. Checks patients in for appointments.
3. Collects payments from patients
4. Collects insurance information and verifies other demographic information from patients.
5. Acts as a vendor resource.
6. Maintains a neat and organized area.
7. Operates beeper and paging system to contact personnel as needed.
8. Communicates codes, alerts, drills, and other announcements according to established policies and protocols, including disaster management plans.
9. Performs various clerical tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in similar or like position is preferred.
- Experience with general office equipment is preferred.
- Previous work experience in a health care setting is preferred.
· 1+ years of customer service experience is preferred.
- Working with Microsoft Office products is preferred.
- Work experience with Epic software is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES – COMPETENCIES
· Possesses basic knowledge of patient care standards.
· Demonstrates strong multi-tasking and communication skills.
· Models a professional disposition and communication style.
· Adherence to strict confidentiality standards and compliance as to scope of role, record keeping, PHI and HIPPA.
· Possesses strong customer service skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and with constant interruptions.
· Specific safety certification/recertification may be required per the organization.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT
The nature of the job requires sitting or standing for periods of time. While performing the essential functions of the job one may frequently bend/stoop, and occasionally squat, reach above shoulder, crouch, push/pull. Some lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. is required. The use of hands for repetitive simple grasping, firm grasping is required. While performing the job, one will encounter frequent close paperwork, occasional use of computer monitor. Must utilize hearing for continuous conversations, equipment monitoring, telephone use and background noise. Frequent stress may occur. The job requires continuous independent decision-making.
