New Horizons Resources Inc. is currently seeking for a FT Registered Nurse to provide nursing services to an assigned caseload of residential programs. Must have strong communication skills, compassion and leadership qualities. This position offers a great work life balance. The current scheduled days and hours for this position are Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm Mon-Fr with some flexible of hours as needed. This is a 40 hour per week position (with occasional evening and weekend coverage needed). Rotation on call approx. once every 6-8 weeks. (Residential sites located in Kingston, Kerhonkson, New Paltz and the surrounding areas)
The Registered Nurse is part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals in creating an atmosphere that provides for continuity of quality care and quality of life for the individuals served and for the coordination of all general and specialized medical services required for the individuals. These services shall include but not be limited to hospitals, medical and dental services, clinics, and primary care physicians.
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BA preferred). Experience in a Residential program helpful. Must possess a NYS RN license and new graduates are considered as well. Ability to relate appropriately to individuals with ID/DD, their families and their advocates. Driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier ability to obtain certification during probationary period and the ability to build positive relationships with others.

Rotating On call schedule (approx. 1 week every 6-8 weeks-stipend paid)

Occasionally (nights/weekend site visits required)
This position requires direct oversight and assessment of medical/nursing concerns, regulatory compliance including training of staff, and the ability to work in a cooperative and professional manner with other members of the treatment team. This position will be working in a home like environment, building positive relationships and making a difference with the individuals we serve.

Providing oversight of an individual’s health. Visit each assigned home at least once each week

Advocacy with health care providers and supervision of direct support staff

Monitor for signs and symptoms of Acute illness

Provide in-service training to residential staff members which will include, but not limited to, first-aid, medication administration, detection for signs of illness, basic health skill needs of individuals, safety and sanitation, nutrition, specific illnesses and medication information.

Ensure all health care providers orders are followed and addressed correctly. Coordinate and monitor medical, nursing and clinical
- Observing of care and procedures delegated nursing tasks

Monitoring and carrying out the health care of individuals within the program, scheduling, attending, and following up on medical appointments

Administer medications when needed

Monitor and ensure proper handling and storage of medication.
- Provide assistance to the residents in developing basic skills in personal care, health care, and medication
