Job Description
The goal of the PHS Innovation Camp (iCamp) is to support rising 9th graders in their transition to PHS. Both academic and social-emotional skills will be targeted with this group through an Innovation Camp (STEAM) experience that is a hands-on, student centered approach to developing mathematics, engineering and research skills. Additional skills targeted are work/study habits, resilience and community connection.
The role of the iCamp Co-Facilitator(s) is to partner with our design consultant to guide students through a series of immersive experiences in a design-driven learning environment. The facilitators will support and partner with students to help them research, ideate, prototype, seek/offer feedback and communicate their ideas with an audience. This program is based on NuVu Innovation School Model- https://www.nuvuschool.org/curriculum
iCamp facilitators will work collaboratively to accomplish the following responsibilities:
Pre-assess and post-assess student knowledge and growth in the identified areas in ELA and Mathematics and report this data to the state of NH for the Title I grant. They will also provide any additional information to the state, as indicated in the Title I grant.
Participate in a series of professional development workshops prior to the summer program to become trained by a design consultant on the program and instructional model.
Meet with students Tuesday-Thursday, from 9:00am-12:00pm, to facilitate the learning and guide students through the work.
Offer timely feedback and suggest effective learning strategies during course hours. Provide students with additional, targeted learning goals, as needed.
Document attendance and student progress and share that information with students and parents. This is accomplished by filling out a daily online student progress log and by completing a summative narrative after the program.
Seek feedback from students and families regarding their experience with the iCamp program.
Spend 1 additional hour per day, as determined by the team, preparing for future lessons and debriefing daily activities.
Required hours:
Attend preliminary meetings and professional development to understand this role and discuss implementation plans.
Facilitate iCamp, Tuesday through Thursday (July 9th- August 8th), from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
Provide frequent feedback on assignments and assessments on a daily basis.
Communicate with parents/guardians with a summary on each student through phone calls and emails, as needed, throughout the program.
Spend 1 additional hour per day with the iCamp design team.
Compensation: 18 days (15 student contact + planning + end of summer student reports) X $250 day (FICA and Retirement contributions)
