Job Summary
- This position requires knowledge of security system installation, hardware, software, networking and wiring of both IP Based Video Surveillance Systems, Access Control Systems, Security Systems, Automation systems, and Audio Video
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Aerial Installation of Fiber Optic Cable, Span Wire and necessary hardware. This requires operation of a Bucket Truck, Lasher, and climbing poles manually with hooks. Ability to climb to Bucket Truck platform-access the bucket and climb in and out of the bucket. Lasher weight is 45lbs and employee must be capable of pulling the lasher across a span of cable throughout the work day.
2. Underground Installation of Fiber Optic Cable and/or Tracer wire. This requires operation of FO Tugger Machine and/or FO Blower & Compressor, or installation of cable by hand. Any of these methods requires cable to be laced in figure 8 on the ground and pulled into conduit or innerduct either with or without mechanical assistance. FO Tugger and/or blowers will also involve loading and unloading the equipment from PCS service body or pickup bed trucks. This equipment weighs approximately 85 lbs and would have to be lifted or lowered 4’ to the ground-this will be done with more than one employee; however the superintendent must be capable of participating in this process. Once the equipment is staged, cable is reeled off the reel trailer to the ground and fed into underground ducts…this is done either by hand or utilizing the FO tugger. Once the cable is started pulling commences and continues for the entire length of a cable run. Installation of cable will require removal and replacement of pullbox and manhole lids weighing anywhere from 10 lbs to 125lbs. Installation of tracer wire in conjunction with the fiber optic cable will add more weight and tension. Lube may or may not be required to assist the cable in moving through the duct.
3. Down Guy Installation: requires digging a 6’ deep 12” round hole for the installation of pole down guys. Requires using a 14’ spade and spoon and a rock bar to bust the rock, then using the spade to move debris and rock. Once this is done install the rod and bust cone and tamp the bust cone to create spreading, backfill dirt 3”-tamp-backfill 3’ and repeat tamping. Then span wire is jacked using a 2 ton come-a-long. Down guy cover is then placed.
4. Delineator Marker Installation: post hole dig 2’ and install marker post and then backfill, tamp to level.
5. Direct Fiber Optic Cable Installers: Train on all tasks listed above AND work in conjunction with cable installers on all cable installation tasks
6. Installation of pullboxes, manholes, innerduct, maxcell and conduit.
7. Working in the following environments: trenchline, bucket truck (height and around/near power lines), Towers (involves climbing), Confined space (such as underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, raised floors, and ceilings) for the installation of Fiber Optic or low voltage electrical cable or devices such as cameras, signs, etc.
8. Ability to read and comprehend plans.
9. Weekly equipment inspections.
10. Need to be aware that daily reports are required each day, these are completed by the jobsite foreman as assigned by the Area Manager. Complete daily activity reports with all quantities installed on the project each day; noting jobsite conditions, any problems encountered, any extra work performed once authorized by Owner’s Rep/Contractor/Subcontractor if applicable. All employees and equipment utilized and all materials including cable sheath marks, down guys, heat shrink, delineator markers, 1/4” span wire, and copper cable linear footage.
11. Follows direction of the Jobsite Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Area Manager for project schedules, materials, equipment, and crews.
12. Requires a CDL Driver’s license issued by the State in which the employee resides. The expenses for CDL tests, license renewal, and physical examinations required will be borne by the Company.
13. Working in all types of weather conditions is a requirement, heat or cold. Rain and Snow will normally cause the project to be shut down by the Agency having Jurisdiction; however, PCS will continue to work in the event the AHJ does not cease operations on the jobsite. Job production is not determined by weather conditions.
14. In the event of bad weather days employees are NOT paid if they cannot work.
Job Requirements
- The characteristics required to fill this position is of a self-starter that is task oriented, logical, detail oriented person with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interface and communicate with customers clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work in all types of terrain and hazards (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.), all types of environments (construction sites, highways, industrial, private property, etc.) and all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 85lbs with the help of another, climb ladders, work with heights up to 30 feet, and in tight or enclosed spaces.
- Must be available for evening work on occasion.
- The work can take place on new construction sites or existing occupied facilities and may include carrying and moving parts and equipment.
- Accurately and consistently wear safety gear, and operate safety equipment, provided.
- Some computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Job Requires travel throughout the South East United States. PCS requires men to room 2 to a room when traveling in Company provided hotels/short term lodging.
- Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license, a clean record and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during course of employment.
- CDL drivers are a plus.
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma and two (2) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college work or vocational or technical training program in electronics or communications may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Other recognized certifications that would be a plus would include BICSI, IMSA, ETA, Maintenance of Traffic, Forklift, OSHA and CPR.
