POSITION SUMMARY:
Is responsible for the management of patients requiring dialysis as assigned by Clinical Manager.
Reports to: Clinical Manager
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITY:
- Manage dialysis treatments according to the orders.
- Participates in the maintenance of Quality Control program as directed.
- Development and maintenance of policies and procedures as directed.
- Assure that all pertinent documentation and paperwork are accurate and complete.
- Participates in short and long term planning and goal setting for the patients.
- Responsible to keep Clinical Manager fully informed.
- Participate in orientation and continuing education programs.
- Completes special projects as assigned by Clinical Manager
- Responsible for the treatment provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Patient Care Technicians.
- Responsible for teaching patients aspects of their particular disease process and treatments.
- Responsible for patient immunizations, hepatitis management and maintenance.
- Observe and assess patient status throughout dialysis treatment.
- Cover unscheduled shifts as needed when other scheduled employee is unable to perform duties.
- Update outpatient medications and call in prescriptions as necessary.
- Update provider with abnormal labs and change in patient’s condition.
- Review the access flow sheet, labs, and patient flow sheets to detect if patient has any difficulties.
- Participate in Care plan meetings.
- Communicate with Biomed Technician of any problems with dialysis equipment.
- Coordinate with Clinical Manager, Clinical Supervisor and Medical Director to Update Policy and Procedures and monitor their implementation.
- Review charting and patient dry weight for correctness, completeness and appropriateness.
- Processing of form 2728 for new patient starts.
- Participates in bimonthly dialysis unit meeting as scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Minimum of one year medical staff nurse experience.
- Current Nursing licensure in the State of Kansas.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be professional and well mannered with courtesy, tact, patience, prudence and a sense of understanding and compassion in working with patients, personnel and the public. Should be neat, clean and well groomed. Must be capable and willing to accept responsibility in the area of dialysis. Must have the ability to keep professional secrecy in confidential matters. Mental adaptability and memory is important. Emotional stability is important in contacts with patients, visitors and personnel. Must have the physical agility to move about the unit quickly. Must have eyesight that is equal to 20 /20 vision with or without correction and short acuity for continual assessment of patient and machine. SKILLS: Must have the ability to think and act calmly, logically, and rapidly under stress. Must maintain dependability and promptness at all times. Must have a positive approach when dealing with associates and patients. Must be able to use intelligence and thought in arriving at decisions.
