Job Summary
The PLAYtrain® program is designed to provide every dog with a safe and meaningful playtime experience. PLAYtrain® Specialists actively employ our methodology, providing dogs with mental and physical stimulation, confidence-building socialization tools, and motivational training in a safe environment where dogs can learn to be their best selves. PLAYtrain® Specialists work in a fun, structured environment meeting each dog's needs to encourage positive skill sets while working towards a goal of enhancing and supporting a harmonious relationship between pets and their people.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise and constantly monitor groups of dogs of all sizes.
- Learn, remember, and identify dogs by name for all active clients, understand and identify universal canine body language and recognizable dog behaviors.
- Learn, understand, and consistently demonstrate proper leash control.
- Follow safe practices and procedures when introducing dogs.
- Provide positive command reinforcement, which supports students who are also in group classes.
- Works with puppies on behavioral development exercises.
- Follow all handling guidelines to safely navigate dogs throughout the facility.
- Learn and follow a color-coded caution system describing employee restrictions and permissions for dog handling.
- Follow daily checklists including reading emails and calendars, gathering supplies, printing lists, and on-time placement in group assignments.
- Maintain safe clean areas for dogs including sanitizing play yards.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Pet industry experience is strongly preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a dog daycare or dog-handling environment
- Ability to read and promote positive canine play
- Knowledge in positive command reinforcement and behavioral exercises for puppies
- Must be observant
- Excellent communication skills
- Team-oriented, reliable, and dependable; maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
- Comfortable interacting with all dog breeds, large and small, including cats
- Knowledge of dog breeds
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and climbing stairs
- Must be comfortable working with a wide variety of animals, including small and large dog
- Must be able to work around pet hair and dander
- Must dress for varying weather conditions
- Must be able to climb 2 flights of stairs multiple times per
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
