The Presente Coordinator reports to the Youth and Family Programs Manager and aims to support current, past and recent graduates of the Presente Fellowship program to actively engage and serve their communities in various capacities, while reflecting and acting upon critical issues addressed in their Presente course work. Participants must have completed one (1) full year of the Presente Fellowship program to qualify for membership into the Alumni program. Community engagement opportunities will be developed and offered in four (4) areas in the Alumni Program:
- Mentorship—students should have developed a positive and trusting relationship with an adult community member
- Tutoring—students should have improved their grade(s) by at least one letter grade or better in the chosen subject that the student identifies as an academic challenge
- Civic Engagement—Organizations, commissions, councils, task forces, etc. should have benefited from the expertise of Latinx youth/young adults by providing their perspectives through their personal and lived experiences
- Community Project—An identified community project will enhance/improve the quality of life for the beneficiaries of the project
Duties and Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:
Recruit and retain 13-15 At-Risk Youth for Presente Fellowship (PFS and Continuation Schools).
- September—December (Part I):
- Meet 2x/week for 14 weeks for Soft Skills Training
- January—June (Part II):
- In-depth Personal Development and Placement
Recruit and retain 10-12 past and recent Presente Fellowship graduates.
Develop and coordinate volunteer opportunities in all four (4) community engagement areas.
Develop and coordinate pipeline opportunities for Presente and Alumni members to access academic support, training and employment-related resources, services and/or opportunities by establishing formal partnerships with local colleges, vocational training programs and job development agencies.
Provide ongoing training & coaching to all members on the subjects of mentoring, tutoring and civic engagement.
Provide all members with an emotional support group while volunteering in their assigned areas of responsibilities.
Offer educational, vocational, employment, personal/career development case management to all Alumni members.
Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, agencies, and partners and collaborate with partner agencies.
Seek out new opportunities to grow and advance the Presente and Alumni Programs.
Increase the visibility of the Presente Fellowship program, the development of the Alumni program aims to highlight the acquired knowledge and information gained from the Fellowship program by transcending them into skills and actions through the Alumni program.
Communicate consistently with partners regarding youth’s development.
Gather data and statistics for the purpose of writing and submitting quarterly reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences such as social work, sociology, counseling, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience providing counseling, mentorship, and or social services work required.
- Experience working with youth, partner agencies, and supervising interns required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency (verbal and written) required.
- Awareness and/or involvement with community-based organizations preferred.
- ·Experience in creating and maintaining positive and trusting relationships with marginalized youth.
- Lived experience with the Latin-x community in Marin County preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the juvenile justice system preferred.
- Experience with event planning and logistics, and class facilitation and coordination preferred.
- Culturally competent with an emphasis on racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse youth.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to build and maintain strong and effective internal and external relationships.
- Must be resourceful and well-organized, with strong attention to detail.
- Good reasoning and problem-solving abilities and sound judgment required.
- Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required.
- Valid Driver's License and the ability to use personal vehicle for local travel. Mileage is reimbursed at the standard federal rate. Must be insurable under MCM’s auto policy.
Physical Duties
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and use a computer
- Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
