Job Summary:

The National Society Sons of the American Revolution has a Full-time Genealogist position available in the Genealogy Department. Primary responsibilities include carefully examining and evaluating evidence submitted in support of applications for membership in the SAR.
As such, it provides a unique opportunity to work with and analyze primary and secondary documents, including vital records, censuses, church records, military, land, and estate records, with a focus on Revolutionary War patriots.
Duties:
- Conduct thorough genealogical research using various resources and databases
- Analyze historical records, such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, census data, and immigration records
- Create detailed family trees and lineage charts
- Assist clients in tracing their ancestry and understanding their family history
- Provide accurate and well-documented reports on research findings
- Collaborate with other team members to solve complex genealogical puzzles
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in genealogical research techniques
Qualifications:
-· Demonstrates a genuine passion and interest in, and knowledge of, genealogy and family history work.
· Demonstrates skilled research with multiple online genealogical repositories (ex. Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, American Ancestors.org, etc.).
· Demonstrates ability to read 18th and 19th-century original records, including the ability to read cursive handwriting.
· Demonstrates an ability to analyze and evaluate lineage information, is detail-oriented, and can resolve issues from conflicting data.
· Demonstrates strong customer service and communication skills.
· Demonstrates ability to write clear and concise letters, including the ability to explain difficult research problems and provide suggestions or recommendations to the applicant for further research.
· Presentation skills and public speaking experience are a plus.
· Familiarity with lineage societies including the application process and requirements is a plus.
