Position Overview
Under the direction of the MACS’ After Care Director, the After Care Program Associate is responsible for supporting & facilitating activities, games, crafts, and homework help for scholars that participate in MACS’ after care program. Scholars will range in grade level of Kinder - 5th grade. The ACPA should be creative, energetic, helpful and a leading example of the school’s High-5-Habits: kindness, compassion, determination, integrity, & wonder. The ACPA is committed to
representing the school in a professional and friendly manner at all times. In addition, it is essential that the person for this role is organized, able to multi-task, work flexibly and have a ‘can do’ approach to work, as no two days are the same.
General Duties & Responsibilities
● Provide scholars with the appropriate leadership & guidance during the program.
● Develop and plan activities that incorporate program goals into the daily routine.
● Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for all scholars
● Maintain open communication between MACS’ staff and after care personnel.
● Assist the ACP Director with preparation of lessons and activities that are developmentally appropriate.
● Communicate with parents/families as necessary through daily drop‐off and pick‐up.
● Maintain a safe environment for scholars.
● Submit all written correspondence to the ACP Director for approval prior to distribution.
● Attend required trainings/meetings as necessary
● Maintain a positive attitude toward all of MACS’ stakeholders.
● Responsible for all activity and room preparations for the program.
● Maintain classroom tidiness and order
Check-In & Check-Out
● Use our school-wide database information & security systems to check scholars in/out of ACP.
● Maintain accurate digital and paper records of check-in & check-out history of scholars participating in ACP
Administrative Duties
● Use our school-wide database information & security systems to check scholars & other stakeholders in/out
● Maintaining and updating school information, records and databases.
● Assist with the delivery of stationery, materials and resources to classes and ensure that stock levels are maintained.
● Performs general secretarial and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, data entry, filing, phone management, etc.) for the purpose of supporting office operations
● Provides assistance with special projects/events as needed
● Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Director of Operations & School Leadership Team
Compliance & Risk Management
● Be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures particularly relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection; reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
● Carry out all duties with regard to the school’s policies and codes of conduct
● Participate in training and other learning activities as required and to participate in appraisal and professional development
● Set high expectations of conduct, whilst acting as a key crew member for Miles Ahead Charter school
Education, Training, Experience
Minimum Qualifications
● High School Diploma Required
● Must have previous experience working with elementary school aged children.
● Possess basic knowledge and understanding of school aged children.
● Be a self‐starter and perform the job with little supervision.
● Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Possess the ability to follow written and oral directions.
● Must be able to handle any questions that arise from various stakeholders pertaining to the after care program
● Possess or willing to attain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
● Able to develop, maintain and adhere to action items, responsibilities, goals, and initiatives; self-imposed or assigned
● Self-motivated, energetic, with inherit ability to learn, and improve efficiencies through collaboration
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Preferred Qualifications
● Ability to communicate in Spanish and English
● Ability to use office software and office equipment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google, school-related software, copies, and fax machines
● Experience with handling constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines
