PRIMARY FUNCTION/JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Staff Accountant assists the Finance Department with basic accounting and business-related functions to ensure clear, accurate and timely financial oversight and reporting and smooth operational functions. This position is responsible for Accounts Receivable and Travel Expenses and serves as back-up for Accounts Payable and Payroll. The staff accountant assists in performing a wide range of daily processing and financial functions. This position is based in Allen, TX and reports to the VP of Accounting. Staff will work under a Hybrid work schedule mainly in the office and occassionally remote.
KEY ROLE (WHAT YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH):
- Coordinate and process daily and monthly general ledger entries and reconciliations;
- Process and prepare general ledger entries and reconciliations for AMEX and HSBC credit cards;
- Process Accounts Receivable – preparing invoices, monitoring incoming payments, verifying, applying and posting receipts to general ledger;
- Assist in processing Travel Expenses – review and process in Concur and post to general ledger;
- Assist with intercompany transactions and general ledger account reconciliations;
- Assist with donor grants reconciliations and correcting entries;
- Assist with revenue build-out entries;
- Assist with preparing the supporting documents and schedules for the annual audit and 990 filing;
- Assist with bank accounts reconciliations;
- Assist and provide back-up with Accounts Payable which includes: data entry of invoices, processing electronic and check payments, handling of vendor inquires, and follow-up on outstanding invoices;
- Provide back-up for Payroll processing (as needed) supporting and maintaining payroll information: collecting, calculating, and entering data into the payroll system and updating payroll records;
- Generate ad-hoc accounting and financial reports;
- Support systems improvement work to ensure efficiency and timely usage;
- Serve as back-up for other Staff Accountants; and
- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Accounting.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Reports to VP of Accounting. Maintains close, daily contact with staff (professional and volunteer) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with vendors, consultants, auditors and service providers to maintain effective accounting operations, manage costs, share information and resolve problems.
REQUIRED SKILLS (WHAT YOU MUST BRING TO THE ROLE):
- BA degree in accounting or similar discipline with at least three (3) years’ practical experience;
- Effective accounting and organizational skills; knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, particularly accounts payable and general ledger modules required;
- Impeccable attention to detail including accuracy and precision;
- Ability to demonstrate analytical thinking, problem solving, creative solutions development;
- Ability to maintain full confidentiality; and
- Prior non-profit experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficiency with entire Microsoft Office 365, advanced Excel skills preferred;
- Experience with Raisers Edge, and SAP Concur Expense Management System preferred;
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to perform work with guided direction and prioritize job duties appropriately;
- Ability to remain pleasant and professional demeanor in working with staff and vendors;
- Excellent research, analysis, and problem-solving skills; and
- Exercises sound judgment and initiative for accomplishing requirements of the job.
