Job Summary: The maintenance mechanic performs miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, grounds and property requiring journeyman skill in various trades. Duties include preventative maintenance tasks on dwelling and mechanical equipment and repairs and maintenance of doors, locks, cabinetry, shelving, stairs and other common dwelling equipment. The mechanic performs plumbing repair work and light electrical work not requiring an electrician license. Groundskeeping and landscaping duties are included. Work is performed in dwelling units, offices, common areas, basements, rooftops and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of any assigned equipment.
Principle Duties:
· Performs journeyman level work in various trades including carpentry, painting, plastering and plumbing.
· Adjusts, maintains, cleans and repairs dwelling machinery and mechanical equipment.
· Repairs and maintains common dwelling fixtures including doors, locks, cabinets, shelving, and stairs.
· Replaces plumbing pipes and performs other plumbing related maintenance.
· Maintains and repairs motors, fans and furnaces.
· Performs light electrical work not requiring licensing.
· Maintains grounds to include grass cutting, shrub trimming, debris and trash removal and other landscaping duties.
· Other duties of the class, as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
· Knowledge of and experience with electrical and hand tools and equipment.
· Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in property maintenance.
· Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
· Dependability and responsibility in position.
· Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
· Ability to receive and carry out oral and written instructions.
· Ability to work in small quarters and at heights.
· Ability to navigate and work within management information systems and maintenance software programs.
Pay rate: $39.00 per hour (consistent with MA Department of Labor Standards)
