Description:
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician/Technologist is responsible for diagnostic laboratory testing according to high-quality standards and for pediatric, adolescent, and adult phlebotomy as needed. Participates in quality control procedures, including instrument calibration and troubleshooting. Performs laboratory maintenance, procurement, and clerical tasks.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs diagnostic testing in various fields: hematology, chemistry, bacteriology, and urinalysis.

Performs proficiency testing in the various testing fields as administered by an approved program to maintain laboratory compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.

Performs daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of equipment and documents findings and any corrective action taken.

Performs calibration and systems verification procedures and documents results.

Reports equipment malfunctions and repairs.

Performs daily quality control and document results and any corrective action.

Records, files, and distributes laboratory reports and maintains laboratory statistics.

Checks inventory of laboratory supplies and lists those to be ordered.

Catalogs and stocks supply according to preservation standards.

Identifies specimens appropriately and processes specimens for acquisition or disposition according to standard practice.

Advises medical staff on proper collection techniques and correct quantities for specimens.

Monitors temperature controls and documents findings.

Ensures all designated health center information is always kept confidential.

Responsible for pediatric, adolescent, and adult phlebotomy when needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent and appropriate training/experience in a laboratory setting.
Software/Hardware: Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
Certification/Licensure:ASCP certification as an MLT, MT, or HEW is preferred.
Preferred:
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of previous laboratory experience is preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
